Pendle MP, Andrew Stephenson, has welcomed the announcement by Gavin Barwell MP, Minister for Housing, that Pendle will be one of the first 30 areas to be included in the Government Unlocking Land Initiative.
The £1.2bn fund announced today aims to unlock Brownfield sites and bring them forward for development of Starter Homes in partnership with the Homes and Communities Agency. Pendle will be part of the first 30 areas to be receive funding.
Commenting on the announcement Pendle MP Andrew Stephenson, commented, "I am delighted that Pendle Borough Council has been selected as one of the first councils to benefit from the Governments £1.2Billion “Unlocking the Land Fund” to bring forward brownfield land for starter homes. These homes will be available to young, first time buyers as a discount of at least 20%.
Housing and Planning Minister, Gavin Barwell MP, said “I’m pleased to have been able to include Pendle in the first round of the Unlocking the Land Fund. Andrew Stephenson MP has raised Pendle’s case on numerous occasions and convinced me that Pendle would benefit from the scheme.”
Leader of Pendle Conservatives on Pendle Borough Council Cllr Joe Cooney commented, “This is excellent news for Pendle, when I was Council Leader we set up the Brownfield Regeneration Fund, unfortunately the current administration has done little to use this fund. I hope with this Government investment directly into Pendle we will see much needed Brownfield sites being developed and much needed starter homes built.”
